Are you struggling to make sense of these chaotic, frightening times? Looking for meaningful ways to respond to the Great Unraveling of environmental and social systems? Are you wanting to connect with others who see the world through the same lens of understanding? Do you have ideas or resources to share?

You’re not alone. At Post Carbon Institute and resilience.org we’ve heard from thousands of people around the world with big questions and great ideas. That’s why over the coming months we’re looking to provide our community with opportunities to connect with one another.

On June 21, 2025 we’ll be hosting an online ‘Open Space‘ event for a small group of Resilience+ members. We’re intentionally keeping this first event small (100 people at most) in order to ensure that we can create—with you, our community—a space for supportive, respectful, and valuable interaction. If you’re interested in participating, you will need to complete a short application.

The application period for participating in this event is closed. Join our mailing list to be notified of future events.

FAQs

What is “Open Space” and how will this event work?

“Open Space” is an approach to running meetings where participants create and manage the agenda themselves. The theme or focus of this first open space event will be: “Navigating the Great Unraveling: How to Be and What to Do.” Any participant can nominate topics for discussion, as long as they fit with the overall theme of the event and, via a deliberative process the agenda for the event will be agreed.  Because this event will be held virtually, sessions will take place in Zoom breakout rooms. Resilience+ facilitators will be available to help and provide initial guidance for determining topics to be discussed, but these conversations and explorations will be yours.

Open Space has been used by community groups, companies, government agencies, and networks like the Transition Network for decades. See here to learn more about Open Space.

Who is the Resilience+ Community for, and who should join the first Open Space event?

The Resilience+ Community is for anyone looking for connection, support, or collaboration with others who are also trying to navigate the unraveling of environmental and social systems, and to build personal and community resilience. For the first Open Space event, we’re looking for a diverse group of people who have ideas to share or topics they’d like to explore, and who wish to help us build a community grounded in honesty, humility, curiosity, and active listening.

Why is there an application?

Because space for this first event is so limited and because we want to ensure the best possible experience for all, we are asking people to share a little about themselves and why they would like to participate, and to sign up for a pre-event active listening session. If you are selected to join, we will follow up with more details. If you aren’t selected for this first event, don’t worry! Our aim and hope is for the event on June 21st to simply be the first of many opportunities for Resilience+ members to interact.

Will this event be recorded?

No, neither the Open Space event nor the Pre-Sessions will be recorded. In these events we aim to repect privacy so that people can participate as their full selves.
